Fachschaft Philosophie is happy to announce that Professor Jessica Moss is coming to Munich for our 13th Munich Philosophical Masterclass, Plato's Bright Line: An Ethical-Metaphysical Epistemology, on July 26–28, 2022. Jessica Moss is Professor of Philosophy at New York University, and her inventive and influential contributions to the history of Philosophy, specially on Plato's epistemology, will be the topics of this masterclass.

If you are interested in discussing Professor Moss' work on the difference between episteme and doxa in Plato, with a focus on its metaphysical and ethical grounds, how Plato's epistemology compares to contemporary epistemology, and related issues in a small group of motivated students, please apply with a letter of motivation by April 20, 2022.

We are looking to have a diverse group of around 15 to 20 participants. We very much welcome applications from students at any university and both from graduate, including doctoral, and undergraduate students. Please, however, note that, for administrative reasons, we will have to admit philosophy students at the University of Munich with some preference.

Participants should be active in the masterclass. The letter of motivation should state why you are interested in participating and in which ways you have alreadyengaged with the topic or with Professor Moss' work in particular. It is not a prerequisite to have done so, however. The letter of motivation should not exceed 500 words and can be much shorter than the limit. Please include general information about your philosophical background, including at which university you are studying, and send your application to philosophischer-meisterkurs@lrz.uni-muenchen.de by April 20, 2022 (CEST). Moreover, please indicate if you plan on attending in person or online (as far as this can be said in advance). We will let you know about the outcome by April 22.

In order to prepare for the masterclass, participants are expected to attend a weekly preparatory seminar that will take place on Tuesdays, from April 26th to July 26th. Both the masterclass and the preparatory seminar will be held in English and in hybrid format, unless circumstances require a move to online-only. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We are very much looking forward to your applications!
